Posted on: October 18, 2019

The 2019 landscaping trends are in.

The National Association of Landscaping Professionals found that homeowners today want low maintenance yards that are peaceful, friendly to wildlife, and engineered to entertain.

As our work lives and personal lives are more hectic and stressful than ever, people want to be able to come home and kick back and enjoy their tiny slice of nature.

While we all want mostly the same things when it comes to our yards, we don't all want to be a copy of our neighbor.

So, if you want to stand out from everyone else in your neighborhood, below we will discuss five landscaping trends that will freshen up your outdoor space to make it unique and memorable.

1. Go Pink

Millennial pink, dusty rose, and earthy coral have been huge trends in the last couple of years.

And, it's only going to get bigger after Pantone named Living Coral their color of the year for 2019.

Pink hues look fantastic against green, creating a huge demand for pink flower beds to go against crisp green grass.

To stretch the pink craze even more, landscape professionals are also expecting that softer, light blush pink tones will become the new neutral.

They expect that people will choose the soft pink tones for flooring materials, surfaces, and finishes to tie in the bolder coral tones.

2. Stripe Your Lawn

There's nothing better than a freshly cut, lush, green lawn in the middle of summer.

But that doesn't seem to be enough anymore.

Landscape pros are getting more and more requests to "liven up" their already flawless lawns with stripes and other patterns.

Maybe it has something to do with baseball season in the middle of summer. They want their yards to remind them of the ballpark.

Luckily, lawn striping isn't hard to do.

Most mowers already create a type of stripe as the lawnmower tires, and deck bends the grass in the direction the mower is moving.

But for the people who want an even more intricate or pronounced pattern, rollers and striping kits are available for certain lawnmowers.

3. Outdoor Metals

Since peaceful, low maintenance yards are what people want more and more these days, metal has become the latest landscaping material of choice.

Metal is extremely durable and low-maintenance, so it's going to last a long time, and you're not going to have to work on it too much.

Metal doesn't require staining, finishing, sanding, or sealing.

You just set it and forget it.

Look for a metal pergola, furnishings, and other outdoor accessories in metal.

Brushed stainless steel continues to be extremely popular, although industrial-looking black metal is also trending.
